Delores Aline Miller, age 86, of Kokomo, departed to be face to face with her Lord on, Sunday, October 29, 2023. She was born in Aurora, Kansas on October 6, 1937 to her parents, Carl & Edith Thorpe. Delores married James Miller on June 25, 1954, and the two shared more than 50 years of marriage before James passed away in May of 2005.
Delores grew up and attended school in Salina, Kansas. She loved living in Kansas and spoke often of life on the farm. She held odd jobs through the years; but primarily, Delores devoted herself to her family, and prided herself on being the best wife and mother she could be. Faith was extremely important to Delores. She was a proud member of Temple Baptist Church in Kokomo, and truly thought of her church family as her extended family.
In Delores’ spare time she enjoyed needlepoint or reading a good book. In her younger years, she was notorious for planning the best summer vacations for her kids. They often traveled out west; and they will forever hold those precious memories in their hearts. Delores’ proudest moments in life were when her children and grandchildren were born. She adored each and every one of them; and there is no doubt they felt the same way about her! Delores will be truly missed and very fondly remembered for her kind heart, and loving soul.
Those left to carry on Delores’ legacy of love are her children, Preston Miller, of Kokomo, Loretta VanNatta, of Kokomo; grandchildren, Greg Parks of Kokomo, Amanda Parks of Kokomo, Mike Van Natta of Indianapolis, Jamie (Raul) Mosley of Greentown, Jeffrey Huntsman of Gilead, Joannie Miller (Jon Shellnut) of Kokomo, 12 great grandchildren; siblings, Harold (Elizabeth) Thorpe of Banning, California, Paul (Donna) Thorpe of Willis, Texas; best friend, Priscilla Hellmers; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Delores was preceded in death by her husband, James Miller; brother, Duane Thorpe; daughter, Juanita Huntsman; and granddaughter, Japril Huntsman.
A funeral service celebrating Delores’ life will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at 11:30 AM, at Temple Baptist Church, located at 1700 S. Goyer Rd. in Kokomo, with Dr. Jim Willoughby officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the church.
